Luminaries are such a fun craft to create because you can create them for so many different holidays and themes.
For this luminary, I have decided to go with a Christmas theme and create a tree cutout in the center of the luminary. Your kids will love seeing their luminary glowing with soft light after they finish this project.
This same idea can be applied to any design that you want to create so feel free to get creative with your Christmas luminary crafts!
Supplies:
- Thick Craft paper or cardstock paper
- Colorful tissue paper
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Glue
- LED candle
- PDF Template
Instructions:
Step 1:
First, grab a piece of black or darker colored cardstock paper.
Fold it into three equal folds, but keep an extra 2 centimeters on the last fold.
Cut out a rectangular piece from the middle of the second folded part.
Use the PDF template to cut out tree shape using the same card stock paper.
Step 2:
Now, cut out strips of colorful tissue papers.
Step 3:
Take a colorful strip and glue it on the top of the middle area to fill in the blank space.
Step 4:
Use the rest of the strips to fill in the rest of the blank area.
Step 5:
Apply glue on the extra area.
Step 6:
Glue the extra end to the other side of the Luminary. This will create a triangular shape which will allow the luminary to stand on its own.
Your Luminary is ready to be lit!
Once your child learns how to create a luminary craft by following along with this tutorial, they may be inspired to create more of their own designs. I would definitely encourage this.
You can make this activity more educational by talking about colors, shapes, textures, and even writing out instructions in their own words if your child is ready for that.
